About Bubba

What do you do at MAGCOR?

I direct activities for MAGCOR resources development including grants, donations, and/or collaborative partnerships; to meet current organizational needs, enhance operations, ensure sustainability, grow innovative opportunities, and assist implementation of effective reentry strategies to reduce recidivism and improve ex-offender successes.

What are your credentials/education/experience for working in your position?

I received national recognition for development of innovative training “best practices” and received professional certifications from various business leadership coaching and workforce development programs.  I have a Ph.D. in Human Capital Development from the University of Southern Mississippi, where I completed all-but my dissertation which focuses on distance learning opportunities.

What is something people in your industry must deal with that you want to fix?

I grew up working in several family businesses.  I know what it is like to try to exceed customers’ expectations every day and to make a payroll on Friday.  I got into this business to try to be a resource to help others grow their businesses.

What do you like about working at MAGCOR?

Working at MAGCOR gives me the opportunity to combine my passion for serving others with my 35 years of experience to help make a difference in an ex-offender’s life.

What’s your background?

I am a life-long Jacksonian. I am blessed to be married for 35 years to my “high school sweet-heart”, Kathy.  I have two sons, two daughters-in-love, and a grandson with a new granddaughter on her way by the end of summer 2020.

Favorite Quote:

“Serve those who serve others.”

What are the values that drive you?

“I have always felt a deep desire to serve other and to try to make a positive impact on the State of Mississippi.  My two life verses are “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15 and “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” Colossians 3:23.

Your top favorite Podcasts/Books?

My favorite books include “A Year of Sundays” a daily devotional by Miss Nan Thompson, “Halftime: Moving from Success to Significance” by Bob Buford, and “Diffusion of Innovation” by Everett Rogers.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I enjoy working in the yard with my wife, hunting and playing golf with my two sons, family gatherings, playing with my grandson, and baby-sitting my grand-dog, grand-cats, and grand-parakeets.
